Paul Honatke
Born in Pennsylvania, Paul Honatke began drawing and painting at a young age and it was not long before he decided he wanted to spend his life doing just that. Honatke earned a degree in Fine Arts from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, where he held a few exhibitions of his work each year and began to gain an artistic following. Upon graduating, he continued to exhibit his work on his own, often while doing seasonal work at a Delaware resort town; in the off-season, he traveled through Europe and Mexico to find inspiration for his paintings and to immerse himself in other artistic heritages and cultures. Honatke also traveled across the United States to study and appreciate the culture and influences of the country before finally settling down in San Francisco.
Living in San Francisco, Honatke established himself as an artist with a unique and beautiful style. With bold colors and vibrant shapes, his Expressionist paintings are exciting and lively and never fail to attract viewers’ attention. Balancing between spontaneous painting and careful design planning, his paintings are both natural and studied. “I like to compare my paintings to music,” explains Honatke. “I see some of them as instrumental pieces where the focus is on formal elements – line, color, shape, etc. Other songs have words, these are the more personal or poetic paintings; they tell a story or express emotion. … I use both of these approaches in my art, separately and together.” Perfecting the balance, Honatke has become very popular in the United States and abroad.
