In high school Marino started in baseball and won Parade All-American honors in football. His skills in baseball allowed him to be drafted in the 4th round by the Kansas City Royals baseball team in 1979. His parents originally named him Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr. but later in life, his inspiration in the Nation of Islam led him to change his name to Muhammad Ali. When Ali was twelve, his bike was stolen. His desire to beat up the thief led to his initial training in fighting. Ali’s natural talent led him to win the 1956 Golden Gloves Championship. In high school, Sanders was a letterman and an All-state honoree in football, baseball, and basketball. In college, at Florida State University, Sanders was the star of his football, baseball, and track team. After college, Sanders continued to play multiple positions, in more than one sport. This time he focused on just two sports, football and baseball. He started his professional football career in 1989 with the Atlanta Falcons playing primarily as their cornerback but also switching to wide receiver, kick returner, and punt returner. Over the years, Sanders played football with the Falcons, the San Francisco 49ers, the Dallas Cowboys, the Washington Redskins, and the Baltimore Ravens. He also won the Super Bowl with the 49ers and the Cowboys before retiring from the football in 2005. When baseball was in season, Sanders played in the MLB. In 1989 after starting with the Falcons, he played as an outfielder for the New York Yankees. As a former running back commanding a huge demand in autographed collectibles, Barry Sanders wasn’t always the most athletically recognized.
