Those that have been a football fan since the 80’s or are well versed in football history, probably know of Howie Long. Sports memorabilia auctions provide authentic signed sports collectibles from this legendary 80s player. Born in Charlestown, Massachusetts in 1960, Long was a great athlete in multiple sports. He lettered for three years in football, track, and basketball and he set records in his state for shot put and discus. Upon graduating from high school, Long could’ve played football for Boston College, but opted to earn a communications degree with Villanova University instead. There, Long won the Northern Collegiate Heavyweight Boxing Championship in addition to playing football. On the football team, he started as a tight end and eventually moved to the defensive line. In his NFL career, Long is known for his skill as a defensive end with the Oakland Raiders. He was a great part of the team for over 10 years earning numerous awards and honors, the least of which is winning a Super Bowl. Long’s athletic skills and team player attitude helped him be selected to the Pro Bowl eight times, be named to the NFL 1980s All-Decade Team, and later earning a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  Read more...
