Almagul was born in 1969 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. She graduated from the University of Almaty in 1992, where she majored in graphics, painting, performance and video-art. Almagul spends time pursuing her artistic endeavors in both Kazakhstan and Berlin. Almagul has been featured in numerous shows and exhibitions, including the Central House of Artists; the Moscow Tengry Umay Gallery; the Almaty, Kazakhstan Collection 2000; and the International Vision Gallery, Washington DC, USA. She was also recently featured in a show in 2006 at the Australia Polyzentral art festival in Hamburg, Germany and the Rotterdam Film Festival in the Netherlands.
