Raised and educated in Texas, Ann Walker began her career as a stained glass artist. Ten years in that field helped Walker develop her sense of color, line, and texture as design elements. Today, she created mixed media images bases on a lifetime of assigning meaning to bits of color and texture. Multiple layers of papers and glazes combine to represent accumulated memories. Working with a muted metallic palette, Walker creates non-representational artwork with a contemporary appeal. She relies on the contrasts of shadow and surface texture enhanced with gold and silver leaf. About her work, Walker has stated that, “my paintings are more narrative than not, even when the story isn’t evident. With each new image I strive to create something fresh that is anchored in the past.”
