Originally hailing from the Midwest, artist Anne Wallace has borrowed a certain still beauty from her home region’s quiet, open plains. Wallace’s formal education has taken her to quite a few places; she studied at the Milwaukee Area Technical College, the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, George Brown University in Toronto, and Colorado Women’s College in Denver.

In her beautiful works, Wallace strives to emphasize two-dimensionality, using fields of color that she layers, rather than attempting to create the illusion of depth with brushstrokes. Wallace often uses a symbol or a bit of text to direct the viewer’s attention within the piece and to engage him or her in the transcendent experience that her artwork is meant to evoke.
