Bob Chaplin was born in Hastings, Sussex in 1947. He studied sculpture at Ravensbourne Art College before taking a post-graduate course in printmaking at Brighton Polytechnic. Unlike many artists who fix an image at a precise moment in time, Chaplin's interest as an artist is in the mobility of landscape and its variation in time, light and weather. He has been a prizewinner in two British International Print Biennales and shows extensively in Europe and the USA. Chaplin's work is included in prominent galleries around the world, including the Tate Gallery, the Warsaw National Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje, Yugoslavia.
