Dutch artist Desnel (a.k.a. Gert Nijland) spent much of his youth being raised in Southern France. While living in France, Desnel met his wife Gilgert and the pair eventually relocated to the United States. While living in New York, Desnel began to make a name for himself as an artist, particularly by exhibiting his nostalgic paintings of Dutch scenes.
