Evel Kneivel

Although people most likely associate Evel Knievel with amazing motorcycle jumps and being that crazy stunt guy who is a Guinness Book of Records holder in the Most Broken Bones category, relatively few might know he was also an accomplished artist.

Legendary Daredevil Evel Knievel (October 17, 1938 – November 30, 2007) was born and raised in the hardy mining city of Butte, Montana, where the unofficial motto was "work hard and play harder." Already an active kid by nature, Evel - whose real name was Robert Craig Knievel - attended the Joie Chitwood Auto Daredevil Show when he was just eight years old, an event he would later credit as being his inspiration to become one of America's most celebrated Daredevils in his own right.

A mischievous youth to say the least, Knievel found some much-needed guidance and discipline in the Army for a brief spell, returning to Butte and (somewhat) settling down as a married father employed as a drill operator and heavy earth mover with the local copper mine. Until he managed to 'pop a wheelie' with the huge machine and crash into the town's main power line. In and out of jail for a series of reckless driving charges, Evel was still an ambitious young man with a knack for self-promotion and a flair for over-the-top showmanship.

Realizing he needed to support his growing family, Knievel eventually developed a series of spectacular public events that gained him international fame and recognition as a crazy but gifted Daredevil who always kept his word, and extolled the virtues of living a clean, drug-free life. After more than a decade of jaw-dropping - and often bone breaking - stunt shows, Evel Knievel passed on the Daredevil torch to his son Robbie who has become a celebrated Stunt Jumper in his own right, setting 20 world records.

Working with the Legend's Corporation, Evel turned out a moderate body of artwork during the 1980's that remains quite collectable to this day.
