Gladys Davis was born in Runnels County, Texas. She had no previous experience painting, but at the age of 16 she picked up a paintbrush and painted the section of the road that ran through the farm where she spent her girlhood. The painting won a Palette Club award which encouraged her to continue painting. Her works have earned many awards including the prestigious White House Award.
