Born in 1966 in Gladbeck, Germany, Jan Mueller decided to pursue art instead of joining the coal mining culture that was pervasive in his town. Mueller began studying industrial design in high school, and continued to develop artistically after completing his studies. Mueller is able to work in very small detail; he can fit an entire composition in a 2 inch by 2 inch etching! His favorite subjects to draw are dolls, clowns, and cats – each one brimming with life and detail.
