Jennifer Clare Shotton was born in South East England in 1971. Her passion for art was identifiable at a very early age; whenever possible she would spend entire school days drawing in the art room and taking photos of plants on the school grounds. Jennifer grew up and went on to study specialized art techniques and received an Honours degree in Fine Art based Textiles from John Moore's University in Liverpool. Her career began by making textile designs for the fashion industry while she continued to paint in her spare time. In 2000, Jennifer began a M.A. in Fine Art at City and Guilds of London Art School. She is now a highly respected full-time artist; her love of flowers and nature is clearly expressed through her work. Jennifer commonly uses the bark of trees and other natural elements as inspiration for the textures in the background of her paintings.
