Jimmie Lee Brown was born in 1952 in Houston, Texas. Beginning his career as an artist at the tender age of 7, Jimmie Lee Brown has been known to proclaim that painting is the “core experience” of his life. Brown studied art at the Greenville County Museum of Art in South Carolina. Fascinated by Native American culture, Brown has always been especially intrigued by the adventurous spirit and nomadic lifestyle of the Plains Indians, who often illustrated their history in ledger books. Brown takes inspiration from the color, symbolism, and movement of these drawings. In addition to painting, Brown also sculpts and does printmaking, and his incredible art appears in many private and public collections in the United States, Europe, Japan, and Australia.
