John Bates was born in the Midlands. He later qualified as an interior designer in Birmingham. His work embodies all aspects of art, depicting landscapes and seascapes, presenting an awareness of colour, light and darkness within the design to evoke effects of simple minimalism. Over the years, his paintings, murals and hangings have been commissioned into a number of companies and private clients. His work can also be found in many private collections.
