John Young

Born in Bristol England, John Young attended The School of Art in Wycombe. His infatuation with aviation began after Sir Alan Cobham’s air display on National Aviation Day.

Young established himself as an illustrator for numerous aviation manufacturers, airlines, air forces and publishers. By 1960 he made the decision to expand into the world of fine art, and founded the Guild of Aviation Artists. Young recently completed his term as its Chairman.

Young has had the chance to fly in more than 60 different types of aircrafts in his lifetime. By doing so, his art conveys a very experienced and authentic feel. Many feel that his ability reproduce flawless imagery of aircraft is uncanny. In 1983, Young earned the Guild of Aviation Artist’s Medal, and was the first to receive the Flight International Trophy for the best professional aviation artist three times.
