Johnny Bench

John Lee “Johnny” Bench is a baseball hero, playing for the Cincinnati Reds from 1967 to 1983. Born in 1947, Bench played sports through high school and it wasn’t long until he was drafted as an MLB player as a catcher. Although widely regarded as one of the greatest catchers in the league’s history, he also impressed colleagues and fans alike with his strong throwing arm and defense.

A 14-time All Star selection and the recipient of the Most Valuable Player award for two years (1970 and 1972), Bench retired from the game in 1983.
