Neal Doty was born in Glendale, California in 1941. His art education began at the Art Center of Design in Los Angeles. Doty went on to study at Los Angeles City College where he received his Associates Degree in Fine Art. Neal then completed his education at California State University at Northridge and earned his BA Degree in Fine Art. A Vietnam vet, Doty attended USC Medical School as well, working for several years as a Paramedic. The multi-talented artist met Abstract Expressionist painter Hans Burkhardt while still an art student - he cites his friend as a much-loved mentor who taught him to never lose control of his paintbrush.

In 1976, Doty was awarded 1st Place in the Larchmont Art Exhibit in Hollywood, California. Although his methods of painting have taken on a very unique style, his works show influences ranging from Picasso’s cubism period to the works of Matisse and Dali.

Neal Doty is an artist of impressive control and aptitude and has evolved into a masterful talent. Doty has exhibited a true love for the work he creates throughout his life, whether drawing, painting, etching or printmaking. His art has appeared at the N.Y. Art Expo in New York City, the Wash Art Fair in Washington, D.C., and the Basel Art Fair in Basel, Switzerland.

Sadly Neal passed away October 2016; he was 75.
