Growing up in Armenia, Rafael Saryan knew from a young age that art was his true calling. Saryan began his forming training in fifth grade and then studied at the Yerevan Academy of Fine Art. Two years after he began studying at the Academy, Saryan’s work was chosen as the best among all university students in Armenia, and in 1981, his artwork won second place among all university students in Moscow. After he completed his studies, Saryan accepted a position as an art instructor at one of Armenia’s fine art colleges. In 1988, Saryan relocated to the Los Angeles, California, where he has continued to exhibit is works. Not only have his painting been coveted by private collectors the world over, but some pieces have been acquired by ABC and CBS.
