Raised in Maryland near Washington D.C., Tom Neel grew up pursuing a variety of interests. From singing in a band to restoring old cars, Neel always favored the more creative pursuits. Eventually, Neel moved to Los Angeles in a management position, but he felt that his creative side was being stifled. Though his still cultivated many creative hobbies, like poetry, photography, and fine scale model building, ultimately Neel found his true calling in the fine arts. Almost entirely self-taught, Neel employs a style dubbed "Whimsical Realism," and says of his art, "Painting for me is a bit like having a party -- you plan on having a good time and inviting all your friends. I'm having a great time and you're all invited."
