Mark Godwin was born in 1957 in Birmingham, England. Eager to refine his artistic talent, Godwin began formal art education in 1974 at Bourneville School of Art and then earned an MA in Printmaking at the Royal College of Art in 1982. Godwin’s decision to pursue printmaking was a fortunate one; following his graduation from the Royal College of Art, Godwin worked as a copperplate printer and plate maker in London. While working in London studios, Godwin was able to perfect his etching as well as network with local artists.

Godwin began to garner interest in his own paintings and prints from galleries and dealers, which allowed him to direct his main focus to creating his own work. Godwin then moved to the southeast coast of England which has provided a continuous source of inspiration. Godwin prefers to paint brilliant landscapes and seascapes, and he uses his printmaking knowledge to influence his technique.
