Born in Pasco, Peru in 1968, Rosa Tello studied at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes de Peru, and graduated with a degree in artistic drawing in 1989, then proceeded to graduate a second time in 1991, this time with a degree in painting. Attracted to ecological painting from a young age, Tello grew up on the outskirts of an urban environment, which gave her a special sensitivity to her natural surroundings. Flowers, trees, butterflies, and birds were among her everyday companions as a child, and the abundant wildlife she observed while coming of age in the highlands of Peru have instilled in her a love and reverence for all things wild. Tello’s paintings have gone through numerous stages, at times abstract, and then suddenly quite realistic, a product, no doubt, of her study of the Flemish school and its Dutch Masters.
