Steven Lopez

Raised in what he calls “disadvantaged socio-economic circumstances,” Steven Lopez always enjoyed creating art. Even when he was very young, he found himself drawn to murals, sculptures, paintings, and music, using them as an outlet to reach out to a fractured community as well as gain a sense of self-worth. When Lopez moved to Oregon for college where he earned his Fine Arts degree in 2000, he received the support and encouragement that led him to share his artistic talents with the world. Guided and encouraged by friends, professors, and classmates, he had his first opening in 1998; it has since been followed by many other well-received exhibitions.

Lopez finds a great deal of inspiration in music. He often listened to music while drawing as a child and he continues to do that to-day; he finds that jazz, funk, soul, and hip-hop music bring his creative spirit to the surface. This is often apparent in his graffiti-style art and the much-collected “After Midnight” series. Music, along with his life’s experiences and the interactions and relationships he has with people, inspire and drive his art. With story, substance, and style, it is no wonder that Lopez’s work has been lauded and praised so frequently.

In addition to being collected by art enthusiasts in the United States and around the world, Steven Lopez has worked with large-scale companies and organizations such as Reebok, Nestle, Coachella, and Vans and he has appeared on Fuel TV, the BBC, and the Discovery Channel.
