Yvette Sturgis

Brainy, beautiful and innately artistic, Panama-born Yvette Sturgis was raised in a culturally diverse society and inspired by her German father to develop a deep appreciation for the arts along with education in general. By the time she was 15, Yvette traveled to America to further her studies in the field of microbiology, but eventually realized that she wanted to be an artist and not a scientist.

By 1966, Sturgis was done experimenting with formal art school training, and instead headed off in a different direction, finding and developing her own unique style. By 1976, she had debuted at her first solo exhibit and was featured at a Mississippi Museum of Art group show soon after. Buoyed by positive feedback and national exposure, the artist began to travel throughout Europe, spending much time in some of her favorite places of inspiration around the south of France and Cote D'Azur. Fluent in French, Spanish and English, Yvette Sturgis loves to communicate to the world through her artwork as well. Many of her pieces sell to her avid collectors, oftentimes before work is even completed. Of her style and approach to artwork Sturges says, “I consider myself a colorist. I like to capture the images of what I see and think. I paint spontaneously from the events in my life and the effect they have on me.”
