Zhou Brothers

Brothers Shan Zhou and DaHuang Zhou form the artistic team the “Zhou Brothers,” leaders in contemporary art. The brothers were born in China in the 1950s. They studied drama and painting at the University of Shanghai and the National Academy for Arts and Crafts in Beijing. After completing their studies, the brothers soon established themselves as the leaders of the contemporary art movement in China. In 1985, they won the National Prize of the Chinese Avant-Garde of the Ministry of Culture.

Unfortunately, the political climate in China was not conducive to an expanding artistic career. After a successful exhibition in Chicago in 1986, the brothers decided to relocate their home studio to Chicago. Since the move, they have launched to international success. Always painting as a duo, the brothers have been able to exhibit their work internationally and their works have been featured in over 20 books.
