Dave Herzfeld

Dave Herzfeld is one of the most versatile artistic talents of recent years. Herzfeld has made a career as an oil painter, generally painting his agriculturally-themed artwork en plein air (outdoors). He generally frames his paintings by himself with reclaimed Vermont barn board. It is his skill with wood-working that shows in the rest of his artistic endeavors: he is also a carpenter, making custom cabinets, furniture, and carved wood signs. As a teenager, he served as an apprentice furniture- and cabinet-maker and he began turning this apprenticeship hobby into a career in the 1970s.

For this work and for his paintings, Herzfeld has earned a number of awards and has had repeated solo exhibitions in Manchester, Vermont. Herzfeld’s furniture has also been featured in widely-published forums such as Vermont Magazine, Log Homes Magazines, The New York Times, and the front cover of Custom Woodworking Magazine. One of his beautiful pieces hangs in the Vermont State House and he has been licensed nationally to such companies as White Mountain Puzzles, Wincraft, Thirtystone Resources, and Tree Free.

Herzfeld lives and creates in Shaftsbury, Vermont with his wife, Patty, who is also an accomplished artist. Together and on their own they create commissioned artwork for clients around the world.
