Jerry Lewis was born Joseph Levitch in 1926 in Newark, New Jersey. Both of Lewis’ parents were in show business and by the age of 5 he made his intro to show business by singing “Brother, Can You Spare a Dime” on New York’s Borscht Circuit. Ultimately, Lewis left high school and began doing his routing “Record Act” in which he lip synced to popular offstage and opera songs.
