Kat Hagan
Born and raised just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Kat Hagan began her studies as an artist at Temple University’s Tyler School of Art in Elkins Park, Pa. Hagan earned her Bachelor of Fine Art degree in Painting and Art History there before earning her Master’s in Computer Art at SCAD, “The University for Creative Careers” in Savannah, Georgia. She remained in the Southeast after graduating and moved to Atlanta, where she spent three years as a successful interior design consultant. Hagan soon returned to her passion for painting, teaching art in the Atlanta area at a number of schools and colleges. She is currently a lead faculty member in the Graphic Design department at the Art Institute of Atlanta. She also won the Instructor of the Year award at Westwood College in 2005.
In addition to teaching and exhibiting art, Hagan spends her free time creating her own masterpieces. While she is skilled in the nuances of digital art and acknowledges that can ease the art-making process (particularly in terms of compositional layout and color palettes), she still has “a lingering passion for painting.” Her paintings, mostly abstractions from nature, are complex explorations of color and texture. This exploration or evolution is a crucial aspect of her artistic presence; she does not commit herself to a particular style or habit. “Every day brings on a new inspiration, whether it be learning a new medium, reading about the latest trends in art and design, or teaching a new group of students.” Hagan’s original concept illustration, theatre set decoration, prop design work, and fine art endeavors have been very well-received across the United States and she continued to expand her talents as an artist every day.
