Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, Matt Lively began his art career in his youth, painting with acrylics on small canvases while hiking the countryside around his home. He went on to receive a degree in Fine Art and Sculpture from the Virginia Commonwealth University.

Lively’s work is primarily that of nature; beginning with landscapes in his youth, he has stayed close to his roots. His supporters often reference his talent of portraying natural light and the delicate beauty of nature. In discussing his process, Lively describes how he sees his subjects, saying, “If you look closely, that source almost seems to paint the object itself, highlighting it here, coloring it here, shading it there.”

Lively’s stunning artwork is exhibited and collected in the United States and internationally.
